New England through Lithography, an exhibition of nineteenth century lithographs from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston's fine arts collection, includes landscapes and commemorative prints that focus on the role lithography played in chronicling the events and commercial growth of nineteenth century New England. The exhibit showcases works produced by many of Boston’s early lithographic shops and its most prominent artists.

About the Exhibit
These lithographs are fine examples of the kind of work that was produced by early American lithographers.

History and Development
Lithography was developed at the end of the eighteenth century by German playwright Alois Senefelder.
