NANCY GARDNER PRINCE (1799-1859)
Author

Published A Narrative of the Life and Travels of Mrs. Nancy Prince in 1852 and advertised it in The Liberator. The second edition appeared in 1853 and the third edition in 1856. The book discussed her major life events: her difficult impoverished childhood in Gloucester, Massachusetts; her experiences during a nine year sojourn in Russia; and her disappointing missionary work in Jamaica. Despite her resourcefulness and her willingness to risk new ventures—as a seamstress, lecturer, author, and employment agent--Prince appears to have enjoyed only modest entrepreneurial success in Boston.
